Fertility Treatment Costs

Flinders Fertility is motivated by a commitment to helping patients achieve a successful pregnancy in the shortest time possible. While we run a business, we don’t need to worry about our share price on the stock exchange and we don’t have large profit targets to meet, so our focus is on providing great IVF results and affordable care.

We show our fees in the same way that other clinics do, which is after the estimated Medicare and Safety Net rebates. This is to make it easier for you to compare fees for fertility treatment before you start. When comparing costs for fertility treatment, please bear in mind that some clinics may not reveal all costs associated with treatment, and hidden costs may arise.

All patients need to have a referral from a GP or specialist to enable them to access fertility treatment. For consultations, if you (and, if applicable) your partner do not have a referral, you will need to pay the full consultation fee.

If you are a couple, both partners need to be tested (and possibly treated) for infertility. It is a joint endeavour, even if only one partner is infertile.

Patients with Private Health Insurance should contact their health fund to ascertain whether their policy covers day surgery admission fees and anaesthetic costs for IVF treatment, and whether any exclusion periods apply. Private Health cover does not generally cover consultations or treatment fees for IVF, but you may be entitled to a rebate on some medications – you will need to check this with your fund directly.

Patients are only able to access Medicare rebates if there is an underlying medical condition leading to their infertility. This means that unfortunately, the majority of single and same-sex couples are not eligible for Medicare-funded treatment.

There is no Medicare item number associated with donor sperm or storage fees, so these are always out-of-pocket costs.

If you don't have a Medicare card, you will need to pay full fees for your consults and any fertility treatment. Please contact us for a price list of non-Medicare rebated fertility treatments.

Recognising that fertility treatments are not cheap, we offer ZipPay and Supercare.

For security reasons, we are unable to accept cash payments.

We offer gap payment for IVF/ICSI cycles, reducing the amount of upfront payment you need to make; however, as it takes approximately 6-8 weeks to receive your Medicare Safety Net Rebate afterwards, we suggest that you pay the full fee if you are able to do so. That way you will receive all of your Medicare Rebates and Safety Net Rebates in your bank account 2-7 days after egg collection.

• Cancer patients - we offer bulk-billed treatment and free storage.
• Health Care Card Holders (concession cards) - we are the only clinic in South Australia to offer discounted fees for concessional card holders – see price list for Concession Card holders.
• We also offer reduced fees for patients who have two or more IVF cycles within a calendar year (shown in the fee table above).

Other than for cancer patients, we do not offer bulk-billed treatment.

In some circumstances, the ATO will allow patients to withdraw funds to pay for an IVF cycle from their superannuation fund; however, this is not a straightforward process and it depends on having a diagnosis such as acute or chronic pain or mental illness. We have recently been advised that the ATO now require a medical report from a psychiatrist in support of applications for patients seeking early release of superannuation on the grounds of mental illness.

Flinders Fertility continues to support patients with a diagnosis of mental illness by providing a letter of support from their fertility doctor to confirm their infertility diagnosis, and a quotation to show the cost of treatment. However, our understanding is that the application form will need to be signed by your usual GP or medical practitioner and a psychiatrist.

If your IVF treatment involves admission to Day Surgery, you will need to pay day surgery admission fees and anaesthetic fees. These are subject to change but will be included in your quote.

Our doctors have decided not to offer the “green whistle” egg collection for clinical reasons.
