The Best Time To Get Pregnant
You are most likely to get pregnant if you have sex just prior to ovulation (when a mature egg is released from the ovary).
The chance of pregnancy is increased if you have intercourse a few days before ovulation - your ‘fertile window’.
If you have a regular 28-30 day menstrual cycle, ovulation usually occurs about 14 days after the first day of your last period, so your fertile window will begin on around day 11-12.
An egg lives for about 12-24 hours after it’s released so for you to get pregnant, a sperm must fertilise the egg within this time. Sperm can live for up to 7 days inside a woman’s body.
For the best chance of success, try and work out your usual cycle (if your menstrual cycles are regular) , remembering that ovulation occurs approximately 2 weeks before your expected period. If you have irregular cycles look for signs of ovulation.
